Fumie Shibata is a designer based in Tokyo. With a strong focus on product design, she has expanded her hand towards industrial design as well, creating designs that range from daily goods to electronics and healthcare products.

Shortly after graduating from Musashino Art University in 1990, Shibata joined Toshiba Design Center. Subsequent to this experience, she established her own Tokyo-based design office, Design Studio S.

The “9h nine hours,” a capsule hotel in Kyoto, is among her more recent design work. Defining 9h design style as the general creative director, she also created the entirety of its original product line.

Some of Shibata's notable works include "Baby Label" by Combi, "Body Fitting Sofa" by MUJI, "ZUTTO Series" by Zojirushi, "Ken on-kun" a thermometer series by Omron, KDDI AU mobile phones "SWEETS" and "SWEETS pure", “PREPARE” by Shiseido, “trystrams” by KOKUYO S&T.

In recognition of her outstanding work, Shibata has won various design awards within Japan as well as overseas, including the Gold Prize of the Good Design Award, the Gold Prize of IF Award and the Red Dot Design Award. Since 2003 she has also served as a judge for the Good Design Award and additionally is a member of Japan Industrial Designers' Association.

9h, nine hours owes its design style to Fumie Shibata, General Creative Director. The duo that made her design concept a reality were Masaaki Hiromura as Graphic and Sign Designer and Takaaki Nakamura as Interior Design. To give her design cohesiveness, she also creates all 9h’s original product line.
