Janet Cheung had pursued her studies in Fashion Design and Garment Techniques in the renowned “ESMOD GUERRE LAVIGNE” in Paris. After graduation, she had started her career as a fashion designer in London, where, for five years, she had gained invaluable experience working for the U.K. fashion wholesalers/manufacturers. Since then, Cheung had returned to Hong Kong where she continued her fashion design career working for several leading international and overseas garment wholesales/buying offices.
From 1983 to 1989, Cheung was also a full time Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Acting Principle Lecturer for the Fashion Design Discipline of the School of Design, Hong Kong Polytechnic (now HK Poly University), as a direct result from her previous part-time teaching activities for the said Course, totaling nine years of her academic career. Since 1989, Cheung started her own fashion design and consultancy services – Cobra Creation Company, which provides fashion and uniform consultancy services to the local and overseas organizations.
Apart from being Director to the Hong Kong Design Center and Vice Chairman to the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association; Fellow member of Chartered Society of Designers, U.K. She is also members of many other official organizations, such as serving as Advisory Board members and External Examiner to the Fashion Design Courses for the major academic organizations in Hong Kong, namely the Institute of Textiles & Clothing of the HK Poly University; IVE; Caritas Bianchi College of Careers’ Faculty of Design, as well as the Chinese University, Hong Kong. Last but not least, she also serves as panel members for various Assessment/Vetting Committees for the HKSAR. Refined aesthetic sense combined with sophisticated technical knowhow is key elements demonstrated in Cheung’s designs. Contemporary and stylish yet practical clothes of clean, strong lines with much emphasis placed on finesse of cut and proportion, together with attention to details are fundamental qualities consistently found in her design collections.
