John Chu is the founder of Centro Digital Pictures, Hong Kong’s pioneer in computer animation and digital film effects. For over 25 years Chu has been relentlessly building Centro into what is regarded as the premier animation and digital effects company in Asia. Centro has received numerous Golden Horse and Hong Kong Film Awards and was also nominated for Best Visual Effects at the British Academy Awards for “Kill Bill”.
In 2007 he produced the first Disney-branded Chinese language feature film “The Secret of the Magic Gourd” which won the Best Children’s Film Award at the 2008 Golden Rooster Awards of China.
Chu was named by Business Week as one of the “50 Stars of Asia” as a “Leader at the Forefront of Change” and the recipient of the South China Morning Post Business Award for the “Owner/Operator” Category. In 2001 he was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star by the HKSAR Government for “raising Hong Kong’s profile by applying advanced technology in entertainment productions.”
His vision for Centro is to build a digital film studio for the 21st century where young talents are trained to use the latest technology to the enhance storytelling process and expand their creative frontiers.
