Born in Tokyo, Keita Maruyama is a fashion designer who studied Fashion Apparel at Bunka Fashion College. After graduating in 1987, he started his career as a designer at a Japanese apparel company. In 1990, he expanded his craft by designing stage costumes for singers, actresses and musicians. In 1994, his namesake ready-to-wear women and men brand “KEITA MARUYAMA TOKYO PARIS” was debuted in “Tokyo collection”. In 1997 he made his debut in Paris.
Believing “fashion should be romantic in real life although it is counter to realism”, Maruyama creates ladylike, gorgeous, and feminine clothes to make people happy and experience a fantasy-like sensation. Sentient to the idiosyncrasies of Japanese beauty and aesthetics, his collections feature a conspicuous expression that is inspired by the seasons. Evocative of the traditions inherent to Japan’s “kimono”, Maruyama often applies colorful flower prints and handcraft techniques as part of his collections.
