Since the founding of his company in 1988, Japanese designer Masaaki Hiromura and his team have steadily assembled an impressive portfolio of award-winning projects, earning Hiromura Design Office a strong reputation for excellence. Specializing primarily in graphic designs and how they communicate information, the Tokyo-based practice has provided such diverse services as brand identity, signage, advertising, packaging and exhibition designs for clients who include Issey Miyake, Nissan, museums and numerous private businesses from Japan and overseas.

Born in Aichi Prefecture, Hiromura’s work can be regarded as a corollary to a world over-saturated by information. He is a designer fascinated by the relationship between people and information, and how this can be conveyed meaningfully. Often finding outlet through strong relationships with clients and the projects that accompany, Hiromura’s explorative musings are noted for their imaginative yet coherent approach to communication, particularly in signage and wayfinding systems for Iwadeyama Middle School, Saitama University, Nissan Design Center, Hotel JAL City, Yokosuka Museum of Art and most recently, the 9-Hours capsule hotel in Kyoto.

In recognition of his achievements, Hiromura has been a recipient of awards which include: JAGDA New Designer Award, New York Art Directors Club Award, CS Design Award, Mainichi Design Awards and others. In 2007, Hiromura mounted his own exhibition at the Ginza Graphic Gallery. Entitled “2D->3D”, the exhibition featured a number of expansive works probing the outcomes from his transition from two-dimensional design into a more spatially-defined approach.

Apart from leading his own design office, Hiromura serves as advertising consultant for the Kinokuniya chain of bookstores, as well as an advisor in art direction for Tokushu Paper. In addition, he teaches as an associate professor at Tokyo Polytechnic University.
