Channeled through his work Taku Satoh’s ideas are unmistakably part and parcel to Japan’s everyday design lexicon. Specializing in graphic and product design, he has characterized brand communications for such quotidian products as MEIJI Dairies’ Oishii Gyunyu, Nikka Pure Malt, Lotte Chewing Gum (Mint series), Lotte XYLITOL Gum, Taisho Pharmaceutical’s ZENA nutritious drink, , and NTT DoCoMo P701iD mobile phones.

A native of Tokyo, where he still based, Satoh attended Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music as an undergrad and graduate student. In 1984 he established his own studio to concentrate on client needs, naming it Taku Satoh Design Office. Since then, he has incessantly pursued creative inquiry even whilst working on product development, posters, package design, branding campaigns. Multifarious in his activities, Satoh has even aided in the planning and art direction for Nihongo de Asobo (Let’s Play in Japanese), an educational television program for NHK TV.

Recognized for his many achievements, the awards conferred to Satoh include: the Mainichi Design Award, Tokyo Art Directors Club Award, the JAGDA New Comers Awards, New York Art Directors Club Awards Gold Award, Japan Package Design Award, Good Design Award Grand prix and Yusaku Kamekura Design Award.

Satoh also serves as a director of 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT in Roppongi, Tokyo. Publications credited to his name include Analysis of the Mass Product Design Series (Bijutsu Shuppan-sha) and A whale was blowing water. (DNP Art Communications Co.,Ltd.) . Celebrated extensively, Satoh’s major exhibitions comprise NEO-ORNAMENTALISM (Tokyo), Analysis of the Mass Product Design (Tokyo) ,PLASTICITY (Tokyo), Paper Fossil (Tokyo), Designs in Ordinary Lives (Ibaraki) and water (Tokyo).
