Toshiyuki Kita is an acclaimed product designer who first began to divide his time between Japan and Milan, Italy in 1969. He has produced an array of iconic best selling products for manufacturers based in Italy, Germany and Japan. Amongst his recent work, he has designed an LCD TV, a home robot and others.

Examples of Kita’s venerated work, which include the Wink armchair and Kick table, are part of the permanent collections at several internationally prestigious museums, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Center Georges Pompidou in Paris, and Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg.

Kita is also involved with traditional craft design, promoting local industry and performing as a creative director. Delving into these areas, he has recently published “Local Industry + Design”. A winner of numerous awards, designs by Kita had held sole exhibitions in, amongst others, the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in Hiroshima, and the Sevilla’s International World Exposition. His contributions to the industry include such duties as chairperson of Japan’s Good Design Awards (2004-06), chairperson of the jury for China Red Star Design Award (2006-08), and providing design direction for the ‘Japan Industry Pavilion’ at Shanghai 2010 World Expo.
